Ric Lawes is an Australian author and screenwriter. His first book, A Courier’s Guide to Europe, grew out of a year working as a European courier. Travelling the roads, he researched each town he came across in Michelin guides so he could explain its sights and history to his passengers.

In 1977, Transit Tours published a blue A5 hardcover of his work without crediting Ric or acknowledging how it had obtained his work. The copyright was his. A man Ric knew had ‘borrowed’ the manuscript working for Sundowners, but Ric never learned why Transit Tours got hold of it to publish. At the time, he set the experience aside as a bad one and carried on.

Across more than five decades, Ric worked on more than 300 film productions, motion pictures, documentaries and TV Commercials, working and visiting more than 43 countries. He spent nearly two decades based in Thailand, where he met his wife and created the country’s first English-language motion picture production directory.

His writing spans memoir, fiction and screenplays, drawing on travel, work and lived experience.
